Since January 2019, activists and volunteers from  various community groups, have been coordinating water deliveries to various towns across the region, in consultation with local residents.

We are a group of unpaid volunteers working towards one simple goal; ensuring that people across Gamilaraay, Yuwalaraay and Barkindji countries have access to clean and safe drinking water. We are doing this because we believe access to safe drinking water is one of the most basic, fundamental human rights.

Over 100,000 litres of water have been delivered to homes across Walgett, Collarenebri, Bourke and many more communities across the region. Additionally, between 200-300 home water filters were installed in Collarenebri over the weekend of May 11th.

As long as the government refuses to acknowledge the severity of this water crisis, FIRE will continue to partake in water deliveries and assist in any way we can to support local residents who have been left with little hope by those in power.

Wherever we are in this country we respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners of this land and pay respects to Elders past, present and emerging. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People have resisted the harmful practices of colonisation since invasion and are at the forefront of all current work being done to protect this land. Together we are striving to ensure that all people have access to clean and safe drinking water. Gali is life.
