NORTH-WEST NSW IS IN THE MIDST OF A WATER CRISIS.
THIS IS A HUMAN RIGHTS CRISIS, BUT NOBODY’S TALKING ABOUT IT.
WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION WHILE THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT.
THE NORTH-WEST NSW WATER CRISIS AND COMMUNITY RESPONSE: A SNAPSHOT
For more almost a year, communities across the North-West region of NSW have had critically low water levels and limited access to safe drinking water. The crisis is the result of years of drought combined with the overall mismanagement of the Murray-Darling River system.
With the government continuing to turn its back to this human rights crisis, activists from Sydney-based Aboriginal rights groups have been coordinating water deliveries to various towns across the region, in consultation and under the direction of various community groups and local residents. Thousands of litres have been delivered to homes across Walgett, Collarenebri, Mungindi and many more communities across Gamilaraay, Yuwalaraay and Barkindji countries. As long as the government refuses to acknowledge the severity of this water crisis, we will continue to partake in water deliveries and assist in any way we can to support local residents who have been left with little hope by those in power.
Donate now and help us to ensure towns affected by the current water crisis have access to safe, clean drinking water.
